In The News This Month...
Well, here it is the middle of October and Halloween is fast approaching. For those of you that are too old to be out trick-or-treating, do you still dress up? I have for the past couple of years. We have a store and last year I dressed up as a witch with a long, pointy nose, and a cauldron for my brew. We also had a spider that hung above the door and was activated by sound and a grim reaper by the door so when someone opened it he would scream at them. It sure scared a lot of people! I thought it was pretty funny myself! Unless they had a heart condition or something, then it wasn't. Anyways, have a safe and happy Halloween and I'll see you next month!

Did You Know...

In the state of Alaska, it is considered an offense to push a live moose out of a moving airplane. First you must try getting the moose IN the plane.

Internet Explorer Tip: Tracing Your Route

Here's a pretty interesting tip. You can "trace" an internet connection. You would be surprised how many hops it takes just to get to a web site. Your request may be handed off to dozens of different places before you actually reach your destination. Usually this tip is used for trouble shooting by network administrator types, but it's also a good way to ge a "behind the scenes" look at the way the internet works.

For example, let's say you want to see how many hops it takes to get to our site, www.wahooenterprises.ca You would do as follows:

Hit Start button, Run. Then type in the word Command and click OK.

You should be looking at a black and white DOS window. Type in:

tracert http://www.wahooenterprises.ca

and hit Enter.

Now just sit back and watch all the little hops it takes just to get to a web site (all those numbers followed by the "ms" are milliseconds.) Each numbered line represents a hop from one server / router to another.

Try it with a couple of your favourite sites. This tip is especially fun to do when there's someone else around who knows nothing about computers. Just look at the numbers as they pop up and say things like, "Hmmmm, I see" or "Ahh, that's the problem."

When you're done, just type Exit and hit Enter.

Word Tip: EZ Dates

Do you want to know how to insert the current date and / or time into a Word document without looking at the clock and / or calendar? How about the information being updated to the current date or time whenever the file is opened? Here's the solution:

First place your cursor where you want to insert the date or time. Then go to the Insert menu, select Date and Time. A window will open with a whole list of date and time choices. Pick the combination and format you like. If you want the information to automatically update when the file is opened, be sure to check the Update Automatically box in the lower left. Click OK. Now you should find the information in your document exactly as you selected.
