Wahoo's Microsoft Tips Newsletter -
July 2003

In The News This Month...
Summer is in full swing here in BC. You can tell summer's here by all the baseball tournaments going on and all the mosquitoes trying to get your all-mighty blood. At least they are not as bad as they were last year. You couldn't even go outside without getting bombarded by millions of the little blood suckers. Now all we have to endure is the stickiness that comes with hot weather. I wonder how much an air conditioner costs nowadays?

We've only had 1 paintball league game since last month's newsletter due to people going away and it being too darn hot to play. Those 2 or 4 other teams we thought were going to join the league couldn't get people to play so we still have 6 teams. The results from last Friday's game are:

Phillips vs. C. Yungen - Winner: C. Yungen

Both of those teams have lost one game and won one game so they're still in it! Good luck guys!

That's that. Thanks for reading!

Did You Know...

By law in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, anyone who has been drinking is "sober" until he or she "cannot hold onto the ground."

I hate when that happens.

Windows Tip: Warm Booting

Need to restart Windows (again)? Rather than re-starting the whole computer, you can do a "warm boot", which is usually faster. To do a warm boot, hold down the SHIFT key while you click the OK button on your shut down screen. Windows will restart without restarting the whole computer.

Outlook Express: "You've Got Mail" Sound

I usually don't run an OE tip, but I know a lot of people use it so here goes.

You know how AOL plays the "You've got mail!" tune everytime new mail arrives, but did you know you can do that in OE as well, Here's how:

Go to the Start button, Settings, Control Panel. Open the Sounds icon. Find New Mail Notification item. Click the Browse button and locate a sound file you would like to use instead. Hit OK and you're all set.

If you aren't happy with the Windows sounds that are available, head to your favourite search engine and look for "wav" files. You can use any wav file you locate in your Windows sound scheme.

What do you do when you locate wav files on the web? Most of the time, you can click a link to the file to hear the sound. If you like it, right-click the link and select Save Target As from the resulting menu. Save the file to a location you will remember, then head back to the Sounds screen (under the Control Panel), select the sound item you want the new sound for, then browse to the file you just downloaded.
